The Box

Vegas didn't provide us with any winnings to help pay for the new things we had to buy once we got back. #1....a new windsheild.....#2....a new sunroof....and #3.....a new stroller. While we were walking all over the place in Vegas Jack rode on Tom's shoulders most of the time. This wasn't ideal. Hahaha. We saw a lot of people with the Sit N Stand stroller which helped me sell it to Tom. (I've been wanting this thing since we had Ty) So anyway....the new purchase came with a BIG box. We all know that the box was a HUGE hit with Jack. We still have the box in our living room like it's one of his favorite toys. We've also played with it everyday since. On this day we were not too happy with sharing our box, not with Ty, with Lola. Hahahah. I was in the kitchen making lunch and this is what I saw. This video cracked me up!

Chow Time

Jack has been asking for "long noodles" everyday for lunch for the past week. He has the act of twirling down and who says you can't play with your food? Hahaha. Here's a quick video of lunch with us yesterday. I had to be sneaky with the camera since Jack is catching on and becomes uncooperative as soon as he the camera. Hahahah! Crazy boys!

Ty Updates

Ty has been growing so fast. It seems like everyday he's doing something new. While we were home in PA he started getting up on his knees and rocking back and forth. He's still not totally crawling yet but he's pretty darn close. He'll low crawl and squirm to get where he wants to go. I think he's the most determined little guy! Today he started getting in the Mobley pose. Jack crawled like that for awhile, it brought back memories. Hahahaha! He's babbling non stop, I love it. He also started eating crackers and some solid snacks. He loves the Gerber puffs, yogurt and club crackers. His legs are strong enough now to get him around his walking exersaucer thingy. We love that gadget! Here's a video of Ty showing off his moves. Be warned...it's about 4 minutes long.

Yummmm! Crackers!

No problems with the sippy cup!

Chew with your mouth closed!

Back to Blogging

I've been completely lax when it comes to blogging lately. So I'm getting back into it. Be prepared world! Hahahah. I still haven't blogged about our trip home to PA for Christmas. That is on my "to do" list! I have 1129 pictures from those 12 days at home. I don't even know where to start with it all so I'm going to put it off for another day or maybe til the afternoon.
This blog will be all about our trip to Vegas. That's right we had a random last minute trip to Vegas, Baby! Tom had his classes canceled last Thursday and Friday and with Monday being the holiday we had a 5 day weekend. We looked into a few trips..... San Diego, Disneyland, or Tahoe. With the weather we decided to go somewhere it wasn't raining. Tom came up with Vegas, and so it was....who can say no to Vegas?
We called and booked the dogs at 4pm the night before we left, booked the MGM Grand and gassed up the car for a road trip. I love road trips! I'm not sure why, but I do. It's an 8 hour drive without kids. With kids and our luck...it was about 10. Murphy's Law was in full force. There's always something right?? Well, on the way there while I was driving we got hit with a HUGE rock. This rock hit right off the sunroof. (The Tribeca must be the most UN-aerodynamic car ever) We couldn't believe how loud the bang was, then we looked up. It shattered the sunroof. At this point we're about 3 hours away from Vegas, in the middle of nowhere. So after we calmed down and laughed our asses off that this really just happened we found a gas station and duct taped the crap out of it! Hahahah. I'd also like to mention that on the way home, in a torrential down pour, we lost the windshield to yet another rock! 2 for 2!
Another couple came along with us. They have a 6yo boy, which was fun for Jack. We stayed in the MGM which was really nice. The boys slept great and Ty did amazing in the stroller. We walked everywhere, all day long. Jack spent half the time on Tom's shoulders which wasn't fun but it was crowded and his little legs just weren't keeping up. There was a pretty cool arcade in the hotel which was a huge hit for Jack....and Tom. Hahaha. Tom got to play the tables and I stuck with my slot machines. I'm a total addict with those things! Tom kept claiming that I was the exact person the casinos designed slots for. Hahahah! Whatever!! It was fun! :-)
One night I actually ran into a friend that I grew up with. I haven't seen her in over 8 or 9 years. She actually recognized Tom and followed him to the arcade. He had the boys and I was heading towards the slots. It was great catching up with her! Crazy small world!
The only major bummer was that the pools were all closed! We were banking on swimming for a day or so. Surprisingly Vegas is pretty kid friendly. We saw the shark reef at Mandalay Bay, the rain fall from the ceiling at Planet Hollywood, saw the Pirate show at Treasure Island, (Jack was NOT a fan), watched the water show at the Bellegio, ran into the Blue Man Group at the Venitian, watched the Lions at the MGM and won lots of tickets at the arcade. See, even the kids had a great time! I was very proud of how well the boys traveled and just went with it all. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be! We really did have a great time! Who doesn't love Vegas???

Story to tell

It's been a crazy 3 weeks. I can't believe it's already January 2010. We had such an amazing trip to PA for Christmas and we are starting to get settled back in CA. Naps are a little off but we're getting there.
I have so many things to blog about. I took 1263 pictures and haven't looked through half of them yet. Our Christmas/PA trip posts will be coming this week. What I'm going to blog about tonight is what happened to us last night....

We decided to head to the beach for a walk yesterday. The weather's been beautiful here and after coming from 20 degree weather with snow we're trying to take advantage. We didn't take the dogs this time. Ty was strapped to me in the carrier and Jack was running all over the place. When we got the beach the sun was starting to set. As we walked down the coast, after about a mile or so, we saw a kayaker. (I hate kayaking and this always prompts a joke from Tom about the one time we went kayaking and I gave up because my arms were tired and he was left to paddle us in all on his own. This happened 7 years ago, but he still finds it necessary to remind me) We went a bit further and turned around. As we were coming back we saw the kayak washed up on shore. There was a 20-something year old and his mother with 2 dogs standing by the kayak. Tom and I walked past him and both looked at each other. Something didn't seem right. I walked back, asked the guy if that was his kayak. He told me no and mentioned that he thought someone was out in the water. I told him just a few minutes ago we saw a kayaker. At this point it's starting to get dark. We stood there watching the waves and I noticed something bobbing in the water. He was about 300 yards or more out but it was definitely something. The guy wasn't sure about calling 911 but I convinced him and said there was definitely someone in the kayak 20 minutes ago, just explain and let 911 decide. (I didn't have my phone) I followed what I saw bobbing in the water. He drifted pretty far down the coast. It was getting dark fast. After about 15 minutes the guy seemed to be getting closer to the shore. The waves were really rough. It was horrible watching someone out in the ocean struggling and all we could do was wait for help. Soon enough the kayaker made his way into waist deep water. Tom and the other guy ran out to help him in. He was a young guy, maybe 20 yo, and the first thing I saw was that he had dog tags around his neck. He was holding on to a large and very heavy book bag. It had to weigh at least 60 pounds. I don't know how he held on to it the whole time he was trying to get on shore and how it didn't take him down with the rough waves. We helped him up to the sand, sat him down and tried to get him warm. It's the Pacific ocean and he wasn't wearing a wet suit. He was shaking pretty badly so we wrapped all of our sweatshirts around him. By this time we saw a Coast Guard rescue boat. Then a set of paramedics found us and whisked away the kayaker. While we were waiting I tried to keep him talking. He was a soldier studying Russian at DLI. He's only been here 4 months and was kayaking to a spot to camp out over night. He was totally by himself. I'm so glad that the other guy was there when the kayak washed up on the shore. He started looking for someone which led me to ask what he was looking for. Even though the kayaker made it in on his own, it was pitch black and he had hypothermia. If that other guy didn't notice anything we all would have just kept walking by and he would have been on his own. That kayaker definitely has a story to tell, what a way to start out the year!
